Jerry Rindone has dedicated his life to public service. After graduating from Chula Vista High School and receiving his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at San Diego State University, Jerry began teaching high school in his home town, Chula Vista. From 1997-2007, Jerry served as Principal at Hilltop High School where he was named “Principal of the Year” in 1999 , and “Outstanding Administrator of the Year” in 2002 and 2006. Under Jerry’s leadership, Hilltop High School achieved the coveted designation of “California Distinguished High School” in 2005.
Jerry’s leadership and administrative skills led him to a life of engagement with his local government. After serving on the City Parks and Recreation Commission and the Chula Vista Library Board of Trustees, Jerry was elected to the Chula Vista City Council in 1990, and was re-elected in 1994. In 2000, seeing his city in need of experienced leadership, Jerry was elected to serve two additional terms on the Chula Vista City Council, where he served as the representative to the SANDAG Transportation Committee, served as Vice-Chairman of the Metropolitan Transit System, Chairman of the MTS Budget Development Committee, and played a key role in strengthening the relationship between schools and local government.
Jerry currently serves as an elected member of the San Diego County Board of Education, where he continues his passion for improving the quality of education in San Diego. As a leader on the Board, Jerry has utilized public-private partnerships with local businesses to fund the countywide Academic Decathlon Program for the San Diego County Office of Education. He is a leader in gaining community and business support in order to make up for the constant cuts to education funding.
Jerry is also the President-elect to the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce, President-elect of the “Laurels for Leaders” Scholarship Program, serves on the Crime Prevention Committee, the Scripps Hospital Board, and the American Cancer Society, and was a charter member of the Chula Vista Historical Society.
Jerry Rindone, Candidate for Southwestern College Board of Trustees, Seat 1, is a life- long resident of Chula Vista, California. He graduated from Chula Vista High School in 1964, and from San Diego State University in 1968. He began teaching social science and business education classes in the Sweetwater Union High School District in 1969. By 1975 he had obtained his Administrative Credential and has since served in numerous leadership capacities including Dean of Activities, Principal, Director of Adult & Continuing Education, and Assistant Superintendent of Adult and Continuing Education. He served as Principal of Hilltop High School for ten years, received both the “Principal of the Year” award in 1999, the “Administrator of the Year” award in 2000, and led his high school to earn the coveted “California Distinguished High School” award in 2005. As a lifelong educator for 38 years, he retired in 2007!
Mr. Rindone’s leadership and administrative skills have also proven very effective in the civic affairs of Chula Vista and in the region of San Diego. He was elected to the Chula Vista City Council in November of 1990 and was re-elected in November of 1994. Then in 2000, he was again elected to the Chula Vista Council and re-elected in 2004. He was elected to serve a four-year term effective January, 2009 as a member of the San Diego County Board of Education. Prior to his election as Councilman, he served on the Chula Vista Parks and Recreation Commission for eight years and on the Library Board of Trustees for four years. As a Councilman, Mr. Rindone represents the City as the Vice-Chairman of the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS), and is a member of the SANDAG (San Diego Association of Governments) Transportation Committee. He is also the representative for San Diego on the LOSSAN Transportation Agency (six southern California counties charged with transportation issues).
Besides his involvement in the educational and civic affairs of Chula Vista, Mr. Rindone has also been keenly involved in several local organizations including the Kiwanis Club (President in 1984), Boys & Girls Club, Bayfront Conservancy Trust, Scripps Hospital Board, and charter member of the Chula Vista Historical Society. He has been appointed as a member of the Whittier Diabetes Institute Community Advisory Committee for Scripps Hospital in 2008. When asked why he is involved in so many demanding aspects of life, he enthusiastically replies, “I love life! Serving in education and in civic affairs gives me numerous
opportunities to meet people!” He truly appreciates and enjoys the opportunities life has given him to serve the people in our city, our county and our state.

1) Secure adequate funding for our classrooms, making sure taxpayers’ money is responsibly allocated
2) Ensure the best learning environment possible for our students by improving public safety
3) Promote expansion of class offerings in order to improve the
class schedule opportunities for our students.
