Cheryl Cox, Ed.D, holds a doctorate in Education from the University of Southern California.  Dr. Cox was a teacher, principal and administrator with the Chula Vista Elementary School District for 30 years before serving 2 terms as Mayor of Chula Vista.

Jerry Rindone is proud to announce his candidacy for the San Diego County Board of Education, District 2.  Jerry previously served a four-year term and is running for a four year term in the June, 2016 primary election.  His opponent in the June 7 California primary was recently appointed to fill a short-term vacancy on the Board.

Jerry has a broad range of experience in education, elected office and community service positions.  As an administrator with the Sweetwater Union High School District, he led the award winning Adult Education program and then finished his career with ten years as principal of Hilltop High School earning California Distinguished School and 3 straight County Academic Decathlon titles.  Besides a four-year elected term on the San Diego County Board, Jerry served 16 years as a Chula Vista City Council Member and six of these years as “Deputy Mayor of Chula Vista”.   While on the council, Jerry was appointed to serve as the representative to the SANDAG Transportation Committee, as Vice-Chairman of the Metropolitan Transit System, Chairman of the MTS Budget Development Committee, and played a key role in strengthening the relationship between schools and local government. He has also served on the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce “Education Committee” while serving as the elective member for District 2 on the San Diego County Board of Education.  In addition, he served as President of the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce in 2013.

Jerry cares about many issues concerning education and our community but most importantly:

·      Proper funding and operation of the court schools under the San Diego County Board

·      Proper evaluation and supervision of Charter Schools

·      Creating synergy between government and business in order to help our schools succeed

·      Providing the important support systems and economy of scale to the smaller remote school districts in San Diego County.

·      Raised over $50,000 while elected to the SDBOE to fund special awards programs to promote the “Academic Decathlon” program without using any taxpayer funding

Jerry Rindone brings a wealth of experience and excellence in education and a desire to continue his service on the San Diego County Board of Education.

Yesterday, I drove a Western Pacific 917-D Switcher at Portola, CA and a Western Pacific diesel locomotive. It was awesome and was a number 1 item on my bucket list! The second picture shows the engine I drove. Also, was able to blow the whistle at all of the intersections. This was a fantastic day!!!

Dear Members of the Chula Vista Community:

First and foremost I would like to thank all of our friends and volunteers for their endless support.  Your dedication and hard work on behalf of this campaign was the inspiration that kept us moving forward.

I would also like to congratulate my opponent Mary Salas and her campaign team on their victory.  Although we found ourselves on opposing sides, there is much we have in common, most importantly a love for the city of Chula Vista and a desire to make it a better place for its citizens.

The City of Chula Vista is at a critical juncture with a rapidly changing landscape.  I urge its newly elected leaders to work together and build strong partnerships with the community at large to get things done.  We are capable of doing great things for this city and it is my hope that the new leadership will work for the common good of the people and the City of Chula Vista.

As always, I will continue to do whatever I can to serve this community that I love so much and to which I have dedicated a large part of my life.

Thank you all for a wonderful experience. God Bless.

Jerry R. Rindone

Jerry Rindone has been endorsed by Cheryl Cox, Mayor of Chula Vista for his candidacy for Mayor of Chula Vista.   Below is the text of her letter of endorsement:

Dear Fellow Chula Vistan,

During the last eight years in which I have been your mayor, Chula Vista has overcome many obstacles and earned its reputation as one of the safest cities in San Diego County.  By working together, the groundwork has been laid to ensure that our city will continue to grow responsibly and to prosper economically.

I am endorsing Jerry Rindone for Mayor.  Jerry has the proven leadership skills, diverse experience and strength of character to continue the city’s economic growth and job expansion.

As Mayor of Chula Vista, I led efforts to stabilize our city’s economy, develop the Bayfront, assemble land for a four-year university and protect the environment. Jerry Rindone will promote these priorities.  With his strong record of community service, planning and business sense, he will keep moving Chula Vista forward.

A life-long Chula Vistan, Jerry has demonstrated his dedication to serving our city in many ways:

•       16 years as a Chula Vista City Councilmember;

•       6 years Deputy Mayor of Chula Vista;

•       Past president of the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce;

•       Vice Chairman of the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS);

•       Member of the San Diego County Board of Education; and

•       38 years as an educator, including 10 years as a high school principal.

Long time Scripps Board Member Jerry Rindone and Dr. Athena Philis-Tsimikas of the Scripps Whittier Diabetics Institute toured the construction site today for the new Prebys Cardiovascular Institute in La Jolla.  This new hospital will integrate care for cardiovascular and diabetic patients.  Mr. Rindone has served on the SWDI Board and has been an advocate to improve hospital care for patients admitted to the hospital who also have Type I or Type II diabetes.  Nearly 1/3 of all patients admitted to the hospital today for any reason also have diabetes in addition to the reason they were admitted to the hospital.  Mr. Rindone has locally promoted the “Project Dulce” service available for diabetic patients at the Chula Vista’s Scripps hospital.
